Playmate Malt Liquor 109-33
This vintage Playmate Malt Liquor beer can from the Sunshine Brewing Co. in Reading, Pennsylvania has the PA state tax stamp on the bottom lid, a zip tab top and is bottom opened.
This is a relatively rare can. On June 20, 1966, the publishers of Playboy Magazine brought suit in a U.S. District Court in PA against the Sunshine Brewing Co. for trademark infringement. The suit alleged that Sunshine began using the term Playmate as early as December, 1964. Sunshine also has sought registration of the term Playboy but later abandoned this application. The publishers of Playboy claimed an earlier and widespread use of the terms Playboy and Playmate. The suit sought damages as well as a preliminary and permanent injunction.*
